Step Sequencer Library Kill Signal Studios

About the library

The Step Sequencer Library makes new, high-quality building instructions for vintage LEGO® sets, free to view, download and print at home.

If you've tried to rebuild a set from the '70s, '80s or '90s, you'll know the problem. The original paper booklets are faded, torn or long gone. Scans, where they exist, are blurry and huge. For many sets there's nothing at all. Fans have wanted sharp digital instructions for these sets for years, and until now nobody has made them.

So we redraw them. Every booklet in the library is made from scratch, from a 3D model of the original set, and comes with a 3D build you can turn and step through on screen.

How the instructions are made

  1. A 3D model of the set. We start from a digital model of the original set, built part by part in the LDraw format by fans in the LDraw community. Each model is credited to its author on its set page, and used under its licence or with the author's permission.
  2. Arranged into steps. We split the build into clear steps, add sub-assemblies with repeat counts ("2x") and arrows where they help, and choose a camera angle for each step.
  3. A brand-new booklet. Every page is rendered fresh: parts lists, step pictures and all. You can read it on screen, print it, or download it as a PDF, with the 3D build alongside.

Questions

Is this made or approved by LEGO?

No. This is an independent fan project by Kill Signal Studios. LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group, which does not sponsor, authorise or endorse this site. We use set numbers, names and theme names only to say which set each booklet is for.

Is it free?

Yes. You can view, download and print the instructions for your own personal use. Please don't sell them or put them on other websites; see the terms of use.

Are these the original instructions?

No, they're newly drawn. They follow the original build where the model allows, but the steps, pictures and layout are our own, so they may differ from the booklet that came in the box.

Why is there a watermark on the PDF?

PDFs show a faint "Step Sequencer Library" mark on screen, so copies passed around online point back here. It doesn't print: your printed copy comes out clean.

How do I print a booklet?

On a set's page, choose Download PDF and print it, or use Print to print straight from the page. Pages are A4 landscape and also print well on US Letter with "fit to page".

I found a mistake. What should I do?

Thank you! Tell us on the contact page, with the set and step number, and we'll fix it.

Can I suggest a set?

Yes, please do, using the contact page. Sets with a good LDraw model already available come first. If you know of one, include a link.

I made an LDraw model of a vintage set. Can you use it?

We'd love to hear from you. Get in touch on the contact page. We only publish a model with its author's permission or under a licence that allows it, and we always credit the author.

One of the sets uses my work. Can you take it down?

Yes. See takedown requests; we hide the set while we look into it.
